My Many Colored Days

We celebrated Dr. Seuss' Birthday yesterday. Our first grade team each took a Dr. Seuss book and did some type of activity with it. I read My Many Colored Days, by Dr. Seuss. If you haven't read that book, it's a great one that talks about how colors can represent feelings. I found this activity here. Then we spread out in the classroom and danced with our rainbow scarves. The little darlin's absolutely loved it.
You can find scarves like these here.
The song Colors, by Kira Willey was PERFECT for this activity.

So...what did you do to celebrate Dr. Seuss' Birthday?

Random Stuff

Here's what we've been working on this week. We have been doing Dr. Seuss centers for this whole week,  thanks to my winnings! (Check out previous post)

Do any of you ever need help keeping students on task during guided reading? Last week when my team met with our instructional coach, we voiced our concerns about this problem. She suggested the following idea: Get marshmallows, M & Ms, or some little treat like that, and set all your expectations for the students.  Show them the treats and tell them you will keep them there by the book as long as they are meeting your expectations. When they don't meet your expectations, you eat the treat. I use beads instead of candy since we are a Gold Medal school - LOL see earlier post! Also I'd probably eating way too many goodies. The students then turn in their beads for some little thing like stickers, treasure chest, etc.

Giveaway at these two blogs -- check it out!

We Are Going to Have the Best Week!

That's right, yes that's right! We are going to have the best week this week because I was the winner of these fine products. I never win anything! You should have heard me scream when I saw my name on the blog! If you don't have these units, go get them now, they are wonderful!

I have to admit, in the past I haven't done too much for Dr. Seuss Day because I didn't have very much, and also he's not one of my favorite authors -- sorry! But this year will be completely different. I have a ton of fun and exciting things for my little darlin's to do for the entire week!
