Floating Snowflakes - 'OA' & 'OW' Vowel Teams Word Sort

Vowel teams can be tricky, and knowing when to use which one is even trickier. So, I came up with "Floating Snowflakes" to help students know when to use which one. Students will have fun with sorting the snowflake cards onto the sorting mat and then recording their findings on the recording sheet. I'm also including in this packet, two anchor charts with examples of each vowel team. Students will always know the correct team to use while they are spelling.
This activity is of course Common Core aligned, who has time to do anything else, right? :/
Click on the picture below to get your packet.

Enjoy!

A Rainbow of Rhyming Words

Need a word work activity? THIS IS IT!! A Rainbow of Rhyming Words is just the activity for the little darlin's to practice sorting through words that sound like the color words of the rainbow. This activity is so versatile. It can be played in small groups, partnerships, or individually. There are both colored word cards and black printed word cards. Use the colored cards to practice color knowledge with younger students. Or use the colored cards as an accommodation for struggling students or ELL students. Your students and you will love this activity. Just click on the first picture below to get your copy. Or to the first person that guesses my favorite rainbow color, I'll send you a copy free!

Don't forget that tomorrow and Friday, TPT is having a big sale. This product will be on sale too along with my other products.
Enjoy!

A Little Bit of This and That

So this post will be a little random. First of all, I wanted to update you on my goal for 2014. I'm still going strong! I'm determined to reach this goal. I've lost 6 lbs. and 15 inches, 15 INCHES!!! I'm eating cleaner (I'm trying to eat clean 80% of the time.) My clothes are beginning to feel a little more comfortable, and I'm feeling healthier overall. 2014 is the year I'm going to do it!
I recently gave a presentation to some practicum students regarding their upcoming practicum experience in the classroom. Though this presentation was geared for practicum students, it was a good reminder for us more "seasoned" teachers as well. I used an acrostic for my presentation and it went something like this:
G - Give it 100%
R - Radiate happiness
A - Attitude is positive
T - Thankful for this experience, for your mentors, and others
E - Enjoy it all
F - Find the strengths in your students, mentor, and others
U - Understand that not all will go as planned
L - Learn, learn, learn
Have a grateful heart, and implement these things into your life and experience, and you will be successful.

Just think if everyone in your school followed these general rules, what an amazing place it would be. I'm truly lucky to have worked at a school, where most everyone worked hard at these things. I know not every school is like that unfortunately, but wouldn't it be nice if it were?
My last item of business is a new product. Yes, I've been a busy bee! My students always loved to find the secret word for word work. I created a secret word activity for each month.
This is a great Word Work Center or fast finisher. It gets students to think critically about what words they can create with the given letters.
If you are interested in this activity, you may find it here. But one of you will be lucky enough to get this product for free if you can guess my favorite color. Just comment to make a guess. I'll send a freebie to whoever guesses first.

I Spy Consonant Blends, Part 1 and a Sale

I've been working on this for a while now. Finally finished it today. This is only Part 1. Part 2 will be coming shortly. There are so many blends, it was too much to fit into one pack. I hope you will find it helpful to use in your Work on Words time in Daily 5 or in your centers. I would suggest using only 2-3 blends at a time. If you are interested in this pack, please click here. And this is just in time for the big sale (in case you hadn't heard yet.)

Have fun shopping!
